I didn't like the volume maximizer - or at least not as much as T-RackS. With the multiband exciter, I was able to get a smooth low end without muddiness.

I liked the multiband compression on Ozone than others (like Sound Forge) becuase it also gave you a graphic display of what's going on each band so my choices of settings weren't just hit or miss. My mix sure did sound smoother without sounding flat. Being able to map a professionally mastered song and use that as a guideline is also very helpful and educational. Ozone graphs out a target line to shoot for with their multiband EQ overlaying the current frequency curve as its playing. Since my ears aren't trained, I can't really use them to master well, especially getting an even frequency response using EQ. What I like about it, being a beginner, is it allows you to master by sight, not by sound. I won't go into details 'cause you can just check out the web site. I liked it so much, I ordered and downloaded the DX plugin today ($199 US).

I tried out the iZotope Ozone demo after reading Craig Anderton's "Audio Mastering" and it is very cool! The mastering I did sounded very smooth to me - much closer to professional level than my previous attempts. I am not even a professional - I'm a home recordist/hobbyist. DISCLAIMERS: I am not affiliated in any way with iZotope (I'm really not affiliated with anything or anyone :) ).
